Lasting power of attorney

Lasting power of attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint one or more proxies that can make decisions on your behalf.

This gives you more control over what happens to you in the event of an accident or an illness impacting your cognitive capabilities.

In order to produce such a document, you must:

  • be over 18 years of age
  • be of sound mind and able to make independent decisions.

There are two types of LPA:

  • health and welfare – regulating such parts of your life as daily matters (laundry, clothing, food), stay at a retirement home, and life-support treatment.
  • property and financial affairs – regarding managing your bank account, paying bills, selling real estate, or collecting welfare of pensions.

You can create one or two independent documents regarding the above two fields.

See what you can gain by making an LPA:

  1. You decide who will take care of you once you’re incapable of making your own decisions as a result of illness, accidents, etc.,
  2. Without such a document, your spouse or family member cannot legally take care of you,
  3. In the event that you lose the ability to make decisions, without an LPA, all the bank accounts you share with your spouse will be frozen,
  4. LPA simplifies all the procedures related to your finances, as a result of which your family doesn’t have to wait for a court decision before they can manage your finances,
  5. With an LPA, your relative will have influence on all decisions connected to resuscitation, life support, etc.

Of course, these are only some of the reasons why you should consider an LPA right now. With this document in place you can be certain that your future, regardless of your health, is secure in the hands of the right people
